Quilting and Lily's Quilt!

I have sewed for many years and in the past made very simple quilts. Then years elapsed when I did not sew at all however, since the beginning of this year however I have made quilts to help me get through a difficult period in my life. I am amazed at how much serenity  comes from just sitting quietly sewing and piecing quilts. I quilt because it makes the troubles of the day disappear and it has a double reward of allowing me to make quilts as gifts that can be enjoyed by others.
My favourite quilt this year was not technically brilliant but it was full of memories of my childhood in the fifties and it was made for my only grandchild Lily who lives an ocean away but who is close to my heart every day.
I hope you like it too! I am putting it up for the Bloggers Quilt Festival. Go check out the great quilts on show!

we must be similar in ages as i also grew up in the 50's and that fabric reminds me of the books we read in school!! darling quilt. i can relate to grandchildren being far away...some of mine are across the country from me, but we will get to see them in a couple weeks during Christmas. so happy to have skype and video cams for seeing my girlie girls and boyly boys when not with them in person
